Venice City Council Approves Publix Shopping Center Development

Venice City Council has approved a site-and-development plan for Village at Laurel and Jacaranda, a future Publix shopping center. The decision follows an appeal by Gary Scott, who challenged the Planning Commission's decision in the Circuit Court. The plan includes a grocery store, liquor store, second retail space, and pharmacy drive-thru. At the southeast corner, a 7,200-square-foot building is divided into six units, while 1.41 acres are reserved for future development. Attorney Jeff Boone argued that the application meets all city criteria and does not require design alternatives, variances, conditional uses, or special exceptions.
